One of the main reasons we all love rugby is because the violent nature of the sport forges a brotherhood between those who do battle on Saturdays that cannot be explained or replicated. This weekend we relinked one brother while also adding another to the Middlebury Rugby family.
Mike West ‘09.5 “played” 2.5 semesters of rugby as a b/c side social member who was simply looking for a good run from time to time. He was also fascinated by his roommates’ love for rugby and wanted to see what it was all about. When Mike heard about the legend of Maggotfest, heImmediately booked tickets and requested time off from his Ibanking job just to experience the Fest and to be with the MOB.
Drew Cason (Bread Loaf 2020) had yet to make a connection with Middlebury, has previously played in 12 matches, but is friends with some MIDD Ruggers. He came down for Fest, paid just as much as the rest of us, and represented the black and blue for 230 minutes. He is a MIDD rugger and part of this greater brotherhood we have created and are continuing to build.
These two gentlemen will be a part of MOB for life and they can say with pride, “I was there for the MOB’s first match and I helped start a legacy that will take the rugby world by storm.”
